Lucky 13 for Tiger

PGA TOUR Top-10 Money Leaders After the PGA Championship

Woods held off a surging Woody Austin and Ernie Els to win his 13th Major championship in Tulsa on Sunday. Now second on the all-time majors list, he's eying number one.

Notice one striking thing about this week’s top-10 money list; four (Singh, Furyk, Sabbatini, and Johnson) missed the cut.

Sergio Garcia made the cut, but he was disqualified after Saturday’s round. His playing partner, Boo Weekley, incorrectly gave him a score of four on a hole, when he actually made a five. Weekley caught the error in the scorers tent after Garcia had left, but tried to catch him before he completely left the area. Garcia reportedly said to Weekley, "Oh that just puts the icing on the cake, or something like that." (TulsaWorld.com)

Charles Howell, III dropped to 11th, while Scott Verplank and Woody Austin follow at 12th and 13th. Austin leaped from 27th position after his runner-up finish. As he said, he outplayed Woods, he just didn’t score as well. Whether or not anyone else would agree with him, he’s having a fantastic, even career, year. It’s also good to see someone else who doesn’t mind showing some enthusiasm.

There’s only one tournament left before the Fedex Cup Playoffs begin, the Wyndham Championship at Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina. Davis Love, III is the defending champion, but he has withdrawn from the tournament due to kidney stone problems.

Among the fantasy golf picks for the Wyndham, according to PGATOUR.com’s Fantasy Insider, are Bubba Watson, Joe Ogilvy, Matthew Goggin, Vaughn Taylor and Chris Couch. Several would-be favorites are sitting out the Wyndham: Ernie Els, K.J. Choi, Steve Stricker, Tiger Woods and others.

Look for Shigeki Maruyama, Eric Axley, Steve Lowery, Greg Owen and a few others that sit just below the top-144 in Fedex points, the magic position that get a player into the playoffs, to pull out all the stops. There should be some intense play as golfers try to either get in or stay in.
