Top-10 Money Leaders heading into the Fedex Cup Playoffs:
Brent Snedeker jumped from 29th to 12th after winning the Wyndham Championship. It took a final-round 63, and a huge 32-foot put on the 71st hole, to secure his victory. His 22-under winning score was good enough to keep him two shots clear of Tim Petrovic, Jeff Overton and veteran Billy Mayfair. Most of the money and Fedex Cup leaders took the week off, which should not take away from Snedeker's win. He played an outstanding tournament and finished with an astonishing score.
The inaugural Fedex Cup Playoffs begins this week with The Barclays at Westchester Country Club in Harrison, New York. Vijay Singh is the reigning champion and he has 10 million reasons why a successful defense is more important here than normal. A win would put him in the Fedex points lead and in the driver's seat moving toward the Fedex Championship.
Tiger Woods will sit this week out in order to recuperate. He has cited exhaustion as the reason he will miss the first week of the Fedex Playoffs. It will be difficult, even for Tiger and even as the leader, to come back from missing one of only four tournaments that will determine the Fedex Championship. But, it would make for a wild finish if he comes back with a vengance, in true Tiger form, to make it a close one at the end.
Shigeki Maruyama, with his 7th place finish at the Wyndham, improved significantly in the Fedex standings to secure a spot in the playoffs. John Daly, Duffy Waldorf, Robert Gamex and many others weren't so fortunate.
To put everything into the proper perspective, the ever popular Boo Weekley wasn't much more than aware that he would be competing in the playoffs. He just wants to play golf and earn a living.
