Here are the top-ten PGA Tour pros, along with their winnings, world ranking and predictions for the remainder of the year:
1. Vijay Singh ($1,348,645, World #7)
- Vijay should continue to be Vijay. Although age 43, he shows no signs of faltering. With his strong work ethic and desire, he will win again and again.
2. John Rollins ($1,303,029, World #86)
- Statistically, he doesn’t rank highly in many categories; He’s fifth in total birdies and seventh in par 5 performance. Last year was streaky for him. He missed five cuts in a row in mid-season, and only five more the rest of the year. He has top 25 in him this year.
3. Aaron Baddeley ($1,137,000, World #44)
- Another fantastic young talent that has yet to prove consistency. His win at the FBR Open may have been the spark needed to propel him to the multiple-win year of which he is capable. Having more maturity will also help him. He should be a top-ten finisher.
4. Charles Howell, III ($1,077,650, World #43)
- This Augusta, Georgia native is a tremendous talent who hasn’t shown his true colors over the last few years. Given his history, his prospects for the year are tough to call; however, his early play this year should carry through for some time.
5. Paul Goydos ($948,720, World #42)
- He’s off to a good start and anyone ranked in the world top-50 has to be good, but in 2006 he played in 24 tournaments and missed 13 cuts. Leaving before the weekend most of the time won’t keep him in the top ten.
6. Tiger Woods ($936,000, World #1)
- One tournament, one win. Number one at the end.
7. Charley Hoffman ($928,860, World #87)
- Hoffman missed only eight cuts last year despite being a trooper and playing dozens of tournaments. Although he won at the Bob Hope Classic, he has already missed one of three cuts. Despite that, this former Nationwide Tour player will have a solid year, just not a top-ten finish.
8. Jeff Quinney ($806,100, World #109)
- Fresh off the Nationwide Tour, in four starts he has two top-fives and another top-ten. Were it not for his relative unproven status, the call would be for a strong 2007. It would be a great story if he were to keep going and finish strong, but it isn’t likely in the cards. He may be a good fantasy pick if the salary is right. He’s going on the Suite101 Golf fantasy team, soon.
9. Luke Donald ($650,600, World #8)
- He is undoubtedly one of the premier players in the world, thus his high Sony World Golf Ranking. He generally plays well in the U.S. and so far this year is no different. He’s almost a lock on the top-ten at year’s end.
10. Adam Scott ($630,000, World #3)
- This should be a banner year for the young Australian. He’s played in one U.S. event this year, the Mercedes Championship, where he finished second. After missing only two cuts last year, and winning the Tour Championship, his prospects look good for another year. He’s top-five material.
